This policy explains what personal data Irish Horse Racing collects and why. Questions: hello@irishhorseracing.com.
What we collect
- Newsletter: your email address, when you signed up and confirmed. We only send the newsletter after you click the confirmation link, and every email has an unsubscribe link.
- Job adverts: the advert details and your contact email. The contact email is private; the application email or link you choose is shown publicly.
- Horse listings: the listing details, photos, your name and email, and your phone number if you choose to show it. Your email is never shown; buyer messages are forwarded to you. We strip location (GPS) data from photos.
- Messages to sellers: your name, email and message, which we forward to the seller and keep as a record.
- Advertisers: your business name, your name, email and phone number if given, and the pictures, video, text and link in your ad. We re-save uploaded pictures and videos, which removes hidden details such as location data.
- Emails to us: messages sent to our addresses (such as hello@irishhorseracing.com) are received by our email provider and forwarded to our team's inbox.
- Payments: handled by Stripe, including monthly advertising subscriptions. We never see or store your card details.
- Site visits: we count page visits without cookies and do not store IP addresses, only the page, the site that linked to it, the kind of device (phone, tablet or computer) and an anonymous count of daily visitors. We count how often each ad is shown and clicked in the same anonymous way, to report results to advertisers.
Cookies
We don't use advertising or tracking cookies, so there's no cookie banner. The only cookie is a sign-in cookie for our own staff on the admin pages.
Videos, pictures and ads
- Race replays are YouTube videos. Nothing is loaded from YouTube until you press play. When you do, the video plays through YouTube's privacy-enhanced player, and Google (which runs YouTube) receives your IP address and may use cookies under Google's privacy policy.
- Video thumbnails and news pictures are copied to and served from our own server, so your browser doesn't contact YouTube or news publishers just by viewing a page.
- Ads are served from our own server and are not personalised: every visitor has the same chance of seeing each ad, and we don't build profiles. Clicking an ad takes you to the advertiser's website, where their own privacy policy applies.
- Links to news stories take you to the publisher's site, where their privacy policy applies.
Why
To publish your listing or ad, forward messages, send the emails you asked for, take payments, report ad results, prevent spam and abuse, and meet legal and tax obligations. The legal bases are performing our service for you, your consent (newsletter), and our legitimate interest in keeping the site safe and running it as a business.
Who else sees it
These providers process data for us under contract:
- Google Cloud (hosting, in the EU)
- Resend (sending and receiving email)
- Stripe (payments)
Resend and Stripe are US companies, so some data may be processed outside the EU, protected by the EU's approved safeguards (the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and standard contractual clauses).
Racecards and results come from a racing data provider, and replays from YouTube. We send them no personal data about you. We don't sell personal data or share it for advertising.
How long we keep it
- Listings are removed from public view when they expire or you take them down, and we delete the underlying data within 12 months unless we need it for tax records.
- Advertiser and payment records are kept for 6 years, as Irish tax law requires. Ad pictures and videos are deleted within 12 months of an ad ending.
- Unsubscribed emails are kept only as a do-not-contact record.
- Forwarded emails aren't stored on this site after they're delivered to our inbox.
Your rights
You can ask for a copy of your data, correct it, or have it deleted by emailing us. You can also complain to the Data Protection Commission (dataprotection.ie).
